Do Men Need Friends? | CBC19

In this episode I talk about what I think is one of the most important reasons that men need friends. You might be thinking, "Why are friends important?" Well, a man needs friends. A bro needs bros! So tune in to see how I answer the question, "Why are friends important?"

To explain what I think is one of the most important reasons that men need friends, I look at a well-known story from the Bible. It's the story of Samson in the book of Judges chapters 13-16. Maybe you've never seen the story of Samson as offering a lesson on why men need friends, but believe me it does!

You might find it interesting to know that every time Samson defeated the Philistines or did something impressive with his strength, he did it to deliver his own self from some kind of mess he got into with the Philistines. Not once in all his fights with the Philistines did Samson do a single thing to deliver Israel from the Philistine oppression. It was always about delivering himself from a mess he got himself into.

That little bit of insight becomes really important as we see how his story teaches us a lesson on the importance of having friends.

Three Techniques for Resolving Conflict in Marriage | CBC17

In this episode - Three techniques for resolving conflict in marriage.

If every conflict with your wife turns into world war three, you need to listen to this episode! These three techniques for resolving conflict in marriage will help so that conflict in your marriage becomes a source of growth and not frustration.

The conversation in this episode is a continuation of episode 16 where I shared principles 1, 2 and 3 of conflict resolution in marriage. This episode covers principles 4, 5 and 6.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this value-packed episode:

Principle #4 is "Listen to your teammate." I’ll tell you why it's important to listen to your wife. No, I mean really listen! You might think you're listening, but are you really?

Then, Principle #5, "No Trash Talking!"  I'm going to tell you why trash talking is so dangerous to your marriage. You might be doing more trash talking than you think!

Last up, Principle #6, "Team business stays in the locker room." I'm going to tell you who is the most dangerous group of people to talk to about conflict in your marriage. This one is going to surprise you!

As you learn about these three techniques for resolving conflict in marriage, understand this: Conflict in marriage isn't a bad thing. You're going to have conflict in your marriage. Just accept it!

It doesn't mean you're a bad husband or that she's a bad wife. It doesn't mean you have a bad marriage. It means you're two humans with their own wants and needs trying to get along with each other.

The key is to understand that conflict done incorrectly will weaken your marriage and eventually tear it apart. But conflict done correctly will strengthen your marriage and draw you and your wife closer to each other.

If you get serious about learning how to resolve conflict in your marriage, you're going to have a much happier marriage a much happier wife, which of course means a much happier life.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 14

Are you frustrated that God isn't blessing your family as much as you would like? Do you hear other bros talk about how God is blessing their family and wonder, "Why isn't that happening to my family?" Is there a secret you don't know about for having God bless your family?

Understand this - God is more than willing and ready to bless you and your family. So why isn't he doing it, then? The truth is that it's not God's fault. It's all on you, bro! There might be things in your home that are blocking the flow of God's blessing for your family. If that's the case, then guess what? It's time to clean house, Bro!

In this episode I look at the story of Obed-Edom, a Bro in the Bible who lived during the time of King David. This Bro did something crazy, but the result was that God blessed his family big-time! If you and I follow his crazy example, I'm sure God will bless our families, too.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 13

What can you do to keep your marriage from drifting? When swimming in the ocean the waves push you back and forth. If you're not careful, after a while you'll wind up far from where you started. You drifted. The same can happen in your marriage. If you're not careful, you'll wake up one morning and realize that your marriage is far from where you want it to be. You let it drift. But it doesn't have to be that way.

In this episode of The Christian Bro Code Podcast we'll tackle the question, "What can I do to keep my marriage from drifting?" Maybe your marriage has already drifted. You can get it back on track! Maybe you haven't been married that long and you see how miserable other married bros are. You think to yourself, "Is that going to happen to me?" It doesn't have to! You can keep your marriage from drifting.

ONE Thing 66 Day Challenge.jpg

Show love frequently and visibly

Use this handy little chart to establish the habit of showing your wife some love frequently and visibly. Put a check-mark for every day you do something to show or tell your wife you love her. You'll get a chain of check-marks and won't want to stop. Give it a try!

The Christian Bro Code Episode 12

There’s no greater privilege than being a dad. Seeing your kid smile for the first time, hearing their first word and seeing the excitement in their eyes when you pull off an awesome magic trick. It’s great. But, there’s also no bigger challenge than being a dad.  Diapers, crying, scrapes, bruises, tantrums. It’s a mixed bag. Lots of good stuff, but lots of tough stuff too.

I want to challenge you to step up your dad game. Be more than a paycheck provider just waiting for your kids to be old enough to leave the house. Be intentional in your parenting. Understand that God has given you a unique assignment when it comes to your kids. You’re supposed to help them discover and develop the gifts God has given them so that they will fulfill their Kingdom assignment.

In this episode we’re going to look at Psalm 127 to get some guidance on how to do that.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 11

I have good news and I have bad news. First, the bad news: People are going to disappoint you - even those who are closest to you. Now the good news: Jesus knows exactly what that feels like. In all of human history there was nobody who was betrayed as brutally as Jesus was. What’s incredible is the way he responded to the betrayal.

That leads me to another round of good news and bad news. This time, the good news first: When someone disappoints you, YOU CAN respond the same way Jesus did. The bad news: When someone disappoints you, you HAVE TO respond the same way Jesus did. Yeah, I know. But, it’s all part of being a Christian Bro.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 10

Is it ok for a Christian Bro to judge others? The short answer - Yes. It’s ok for a Christian Bro to judge others - except when it’s not ok for a Christian Bro to judge others. Make sense?

I’ll talk about two passage in the Bible that I think demonstrate clearly that when it comes to judging others, it’s ok; except when it’s not ok.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 07

Got ink? Some bros think it’s no biggie and other bros think it’ll send you straight to hell. Tattoos. In the end it’s a personal decision. But if you’re thinking about getting some ink, you should give it some serious thought and even seek the advice of others you trust.

In this episode of The Christian Bro Code Podcast my special guest, Pastor Orlando Lopez, will tell us about his personal journey in deciding to get tattoos. That’s right - he’s a pastor and he has tattoos. And he didn’t get them before he got saved either. Nope. He had already been a pastor for some time when he decided to get his first tattoo. The conversation we had should help you work through this decision.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 06

For a Christian Bro nothing feels worse than the shame, guilt, and embarrassment of giving into temptation. You wish you could travel back in time and do things differently. You swear you’ll never let it happen again. But, how can you be so sure it won’t happen again? What you need is a plan to overcome temptation. You need to think of some actions you can take when facing temptation that will give you a better chance of overcoming your temptation.

In this episode I teach you 4 strategies for overcoming temptations:

  • Strategy #1: Avoid tempting situations (7:22)
  • Strategy #2: Be accountable to somebody who is mature and whom you trust (15:23)
  • Strategy #3: Have a plan before temptation arrives (23:16)
  • Strategy #4: Find your strength in God (30:54)
The Christian Bro Code Episode 05

Temptation is something every Christian Bro has to deal with. As Christian Bros we know giving in to temptation is not good. We know something much better awaits us if we resist temptation. So if we know that, then why is temptation so hard to resist?

In this episode I'm going to talk about the difference between a temptation and a trial. Not only that, I'm going to tell you why it can be hard to tell the difference between the two. The reason may surprise you. Also, the world of boxing is going to teach us a little something about how to resist temptation. To add value to your spiritual grow, you're going to have to learn how to resist temptation. This episode is going to help you out.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 04

Every bro looks up to other bros. There's nothing wrong with that. When it becomes dangerous is when you start comparing yourself to other bros. That's not good for anyone and it's especially not good for your spiritual growth. God created you to be you and nobody else. So, stop comparing yourself to other bros.

I mention two books in this episode. Check them out here: marioescobedo.com/readinglist

The Christian Bro Code Episode 02

It's not always easy or popular, but it's always best to do what is right in God's eyes. In fact, God promotes you when you do what is right in His eyes. It may not be smooth sailing at first, but in the end, it's worth it. In this episode we look at a the story of a bro in the Bible who decided to do what was right in God's eyes. It was tough at first, but God took care of things.

The Christian Bro Code Episode 01

Figuring out God’s will for your life can be tricky. It can feel like trying to hold on to a slippery fish you just pulled out of the water. One minute you’ve got it tight and the next minute it slips right out of your hands. What’s a bro to do? In the first episode of The Christian Bro Code Podcast we tackle the question, “Figuring out God’s will for my life – is there a better way to do it, or should I just keep guessing?”
